People with lived experience co-design and co-facilitate these courses alongside professionals, promoting\u00a0equality, empowerment, and self-directed learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rooted in\u00a0recovery-oriented practice, Recovery\u00a0Colleges\u00a0help participants explore their goals, build confidence, and reconnect with community and purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recovery Colleges are Aligned with Support Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recovery Colleges align closely with supported education, which helps people with psychiatric disabilities access and thrive in educational settings. While supported education often operates within mainstream institutions, Recovery Colleges bring learning into mental health systems, offering a flexible and inclusive space for growth\u2014often serving as a stepping stone toward further education, employment, or community involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Relevance for Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recovery\u00a0Colleges\u00a0reflect the core values of\u00a0psychosocial rehabilitation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Centering hope, autonomy, and social inclusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fostering skills for everyday life, work, and community participation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting collaborative relationships between practitioners and peers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For PSR practitioners, they offer a practical model of\u00a0co-learning and role recovery, shifting away from traditional power dynamics and toward shared transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What the Evidence Says<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Positive outcomes\u00a0include increased confidence, social connection, hope, and reduced service use (Th\u00e9riault et al., 2020).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-term studies\u00a0show sustained impacts on identity, purpose, and self-management up to a year later (Thompson et al., 2021).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recovery\u00a0Colleges\u00a0can engage individuals\u00a0disengaged from traditional services\u00a0and offer new ways of relating to mental health (Whitley et al., 2019).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Challenges include\u00a0variability in implementation, limited high-quality evidence, and risk of straying from recovery principles if co-production is not maintained (Perkins et al., 2018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recovery\u00a0Colleges\u00a0are education-based initiatives that support mental health recovery through\u00a0co-produced, strengths-based learning environments.
