It was previously known as \u201cAutism Awareness Month,\u201d and some organizations still refer to it that way. However, autistic-led organizations and communities have long called for a shift toward \u201cAutism Acceptance\u201d or \u201cAutism Appreciation\u201d to reflect their understanding of autism as a lived experience, not an illness or condition.
